“Am I not here, I, who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection?” -Our Lady of Guadalupe & today is her feast! 🌹 My semester in Arizona cultivated an affection in me toward Our Lady of Guadalupe. This quote from her, which is also pictured above in Spanish, is such a beautiful testament to who she is as our tender, yet fierce, mother. Any image of OLO Guadalupe speaks to this nature of hers: she’s pregnant but stomping on the head of a serpent. What a woman! It’s been almost 5 years since AZ was my temporary home and almost a year since I visited with my little family, and today’s feast inspired some reflection on our Lord’s goodness, especially when bestowed upon us through Our Lady, the great mediatrix. Jesus is the giver of good gifts! He wants to give them to us, and we just have to be open to receiving them. I’m so grateful that He called me to be open to attending a University under the patronage of His mother. So many blessings have flowed from that “yes.” But my “yes” wouldn’t have been possible without the Blessed Mother’s first “yes” or “fiat.” What is the Lord asking you to be open to saying “yes” to? Trust that He will bless you abundantly through that yes.

it would be impossible to count the hours I’ve spent in this chapel with the Eucharist exposed or in the tabernacle summer or winter late at night or during the day with friends or alone for confession, Mass, or just to pray before I knew what prayer was and after I began striving to have a prayer life to light my own candle or to pray for others’ intentions it would be impossible to count all of the intentions pleaded for the tears shed the graces received the joys experienced the Jesus present here is the same Jesus who received me home after a church camp where He transformed my heart is the same Jesus who was present as I cried too many tears over a stupid boy is the same Jesus with whom I spent my time in Covid lockdown is the same Jesus who was present as my husband and I prayed together minutes before our wedding but He’s also the same Jesus who was present in all the Masses I attended in different towns when traveling for soccer growing up the same Jesus I spent time with each morning on the road with Totus Tuus the same Jesus I encountered in a new way in Rome the same Jesus at the Newman Center at ASU the same Jesus I received right before Masses were cancelled for months the same Jesus I received at Mass the day we brought our son home from the hospital He is the same Jesus, yesterday and today and forever, in every tabernacle or monstrance in every Catholic church in every city in the world, waiting for you and me to show up, as we are, where we are. “He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you.” -St. John Paul the Great

As I was making and receiving gifts from our wedding and baby registries, I remember identifying this interior movement of excitement at the gifts that was often twisted to a material greed. In September of 2016, I moved out of the town I lived all my life to head to college. That started a series of frequent moves for the next 7 years. For 2 of those years, I was in the same apartment, which is by far the longest I’ve lived in a place since coming to college. As someone who easily gets attached to people and places, many of these moves were difficult, and this most recent one was no exception. What a great gift it was to call this place home. What a lovely space we had to start our life as a married couple and then family of 3. What a huge blessing to live down the hall from a Eucharistic chapel. Thank You, Jesus, for this graced season in the Roers Hall 🤍🫶🏼
